I have started to settle into my new school and have met with my CAS advisor, Ms. Goldman. She explained the way they do CAS here is different than what I experienced at La Paz. Every IB diploma student does an afterschool activity such as a sport, theater, or mock trial. I am playing soccer for Newman and so far it looks like I will likely be one of the captains.
The other thing that we do is join a co-curricular or club. I looked at a few in the first weeks and the one I have selected is the Environmental Club. I proposed a group to work on a proposal for the administration about installing solar panels on the roof of the school. Our building is two conjoined five-story apartment buildings in Back Bay that have flat roofs. We went up there last week and measured out the dimensions of unused space. The building is unobstructed and will get close to 100% of the sunlight.
We have begun to look into different options for ways this could happen including leasing the panels as well as applying for a grant because we will be the first ‘solar-school’ in Boston.
