So, the activity in question was our Mangrove Restoration event, which I have described in a previous entry (you can find all of them here in wonderment!). To summarise, we held an event with a turnout of 30-40 people that consisted of collecting and planting mangrove seeds. It was very effective, and I will be providing updates on the progress of our nursery.
The primary goal was to not only amass a large quantity of seeds for our nursery (which we did), but to raise awareness to the importance of the mangrove. There was one moment that really stood out to me as the “ok, we accomplished this” moment. It happened when a Swedish woman that was working with Connect Ocean told me, when we were talking after the event, that “I had no idea mangroves were this cool, I’ll definitely be looking forward to working with them in the future”. I actually have this moment recorded on an interview (Which I will be posting).
I think this event was a huge success, and it impacted me very deeply. It really helped me decide that, ok, this is my project now. This is what I want to do for my CAS project, and I couldn’t be happier.
