To be wrapping up the project feels exciting because I have put a lot of work and effort into it, so wrapping it up will be a big accomplishment. I know it won’t necessarily mean the end for me, I want to keep helping the mangrove how I can because it’s my home, but I know it’ll be a pause while I finish working on IB and figuring out what is next for college. However, I am upset that I haven’t found anyone yet in younger grades to carry on the project in the future. I hope I can figure that out before leaving La Paz. When I do leave La Paz, I want to be remembered for my work helping the environment and hopefully that inspires other students to run a CAS project related to the environment and sustainability. I want to be remembered for being a hard worker and pushing through the project even though it was difficult and not always successful (mangrove nursery) but definitely worth it. I want people from the community to walk through the bridge in the mangrove and think about my project and my efforts towards helping the mangrove come back. I want to make the informational signs in order to show the rest of the world how the project has benefited the mangrove and raise awareness as well as inspire them to help their local community.
I will use this in my life because CAS was a hands on learning experience in many different ways. Not only did I learn more about mangroves and the environment which will help me take conscious decisions and actions, but I also improved in working collaboratively. I like to be independent and do things my way, but during this project I had to collaborate with others so I worked on being more open minded and patient. I also learned planning skills, because I planned a field trip for 5th grade and an entire 2 day weekend event. It was for sure stressful figuring out the details, contacting all the stakeholders and especially trying to figure out how much to charge per person without knowing how many people were going to come and being able to cover all costs.
I will definitely talk about this project in the future because I learned many new things and practiced many skills that I know will help me in the future in college and when I get a job. I will talk about the learning experiences and the successes of the project. There were things in the project that definitely failed, like the mangrove nursery, but I was able to learn from it so that is what matters. There are also many stressful times such as planning and communicating with everyone, where I know we could’ve done better, but it all lead to moments we can celebrate about.
