Being in Wild Africa – Some Realities to Know

The Wonder of truly being part of Nature in Wild Africa is indescribable. While humans are part of Nature, many of us aren't accustomed to interacting with Nature's other beings directly. When we are living, hiking and being in Wild Africa it behooves us to recognize that we are more like unexpected intruders into another's home and behave accordingly. Nature, by contemporary human standards, is quiet, subtle and nuanced. Warnings are almost always given by wild ones, but lack of awareness and focus, talking and distraction, can mean missing the very warning that is meant to protect you. Predator mammals may come to mind first, but there are infinite other beings living in the regions we'll visit, all deserving of our respect and attention so all can be safe. The first being in the video above is an Olifugue. Found in the region of the Karoo we'll visit, they are neither a spider nor a scorpion (though resemble both) and are not venomous but have a pinching bite. The next is a Puff Adder, venomous with a painful bite.
