Challenges Journal Entry

One of the challenges of the past weeks for the project was creating a presentation about microplastics for 4th graders. It is difficult to create a presentation that is at an adequate level for students that are years younger and at a lower level. In this case, I used my research skills to learn how to teach fourth graders as well as finding similar presentations for young children to see the level of the content that I had to use. Another challenge was how to start raising funds for trash bins and straws. I used my communication and organization skills to contact the administration and student government to ask for a Dress Up Day to raise funds for the project. The proposal was accepted and we are just waiting for a date for the event which will help us raise funds to hopefully finance the donation to the first soda. This shows how using my strengths helped me in the past weeks to create the presentation which will be used on Monday to teach 4th graders about microplastics. I also used my organization skills and improved my communication skills which was highly effective to get the Dress Up Day and start getting funds. This connects to the IB learner profile of Inquirers as I researched and learned to acquire the knowledge of how to teach fourth graders. It also connects to the learning outcome of strengths and growth as I used my strengths to face the past challenges which also made me grow and develop new skills.
