Update: Creative field trip journal entry (ART TRIP)
Creative field trip journal entry (ART TRIP)
On Friday, October 8 my art class accompanied the 12th-grade art students to the beach to help them create their land art. We were separated into three groups. I helped Ashley with her piece about discrimination towards women. We wrote disrespectful words that women are told on a daily basis such as, idiot, easy, insignificant, fat, crazy, invisible...etc. The words formed semi-circles that overlap each other. There was an idea to incorporate the ocean waves in the art. The waves we meant to wash away the words symbolizing that women are not what they are called. In the beginning, I thought the art was fairly simple. However, the simplicity of the art allowed for the message to be expressed in a clear manner. The use of water was a very creative touch that created an even greater value to the art. When we first started we faced a problem and had to come up with a solution. In order for the waves to wash out the words, the art needed to be close to the shore. Sadly the water would wash out the words too fast, not allowing us to finish the piece. We analyzed the situation and decided to move the art up (away from the ocean). By moving the art up we were able to create the piece as planned but the tide was too low to wash the words out. However, when the tide eventually came in the words would vanish as planned. This project addresses the global issue that women from all over the world are facing every day. I am glad I was able to contribute to raising awareness about the issue in my community.
