Creativity 2019

During this December break I have finished my CAS experience. Due to the excitement of concluding a part of the IB program there is also a sadness related to closing this chapter of the IB. Not only is it one step closer to getting my diploma it is one step closer to moving onto a new chapter in life, one where creativity and initiative will be the key to success. During this break I once again worked on the CEPIA christmas party, something I have been proud to be a part of for the past nine years. Although I wasn’t as involved in the entire process this year I was able to make a large poush at the end of the process in order to ensure its effective completion.

One December 17 my family, friends and volunteers gathered to provide gifts for 1,000 children in our area. This is about 4o00 more kids than last year. Although there was a large increase in the amount of people we were providing for we were able to create beautiful gifts for each and every one of them. When we arrived at the event I did my usual thing, I set up the front table and organized everyone in order to endure we were ready for the crowd that was about to come. I was excited and nervous due to this being not only one of my last CAS experiences but also to it being my last CEPIA christmas party while being at LA Paz.

The kids began to arrive and smiles illuminated on their faces, however this didn’t last long. We were quickly confronted with a problem, our list which we had relied on to bag more than 1,000 kids gifts was incorrect. This is when the creativity came into play. I was immediately overwhelmed and freaking out because this project which we have all taken so much pride in seemed to be messed up. There were 100 or more people looking at us with disappointment. It was utter chaos. The volunteers and I gathered and decided to be creative. We pulled apart hundreds of gifts and repackage them in order to provide as many kids as we could with their desired gifts. The event started at 10 and ended at 5. We were able to provide the majority of families with the gifts we promised however due to the confusion about 100 families were missing gifts. We created a list and moved forward, we raised the necessary money and continued to buy more gifts in order to fulfill our promise. Through our use of creativity, the ability to remain calm and collected, and our knowledge of the product we were able to accomplish our goal and help rpive 1,000 kids with a happy Christmas.
