Creativity: Mangrove painting series

I am taking Higher Level visual arts in IB and for one of my projects, I decided to incorporate my CAS project. Since I was taking apart my mangrove nursery after it didn’t give the results we were looking for, I decided to use the wood to create an art series based on my project. I had never painted on wood before so it was a challenge for me to incorporate the rough texture of the surface to adapt my painting style which is supposed to be smooth and flat. Since the survival rate of mangroves in the nursery was low, I decided to use the wood to represent a learning experience and represent different steps of my project in order to raise awareness. The series consists of 3 paintings from pictures of the community events. The first piece is the seed recollection process, I painted one of my friends walking through the dense mangrove in search of seeds. The second piece is planting, so I painted another friend leaning over holding a mangrove in their hand about to plant it. The last one is about passing on to future generations, for this last piece I painted a man passing a mangrove to a toddler girl to represent the passing of knowledge, wisdom and awareness that the present generations can keep passing on to the future generations in order to make a change. The following picture shows the triptych of my mangrove series, which will be displayed at my final IB art exhibition in March!
