Día de las Mascaradas _ Grace Herman

November 2, 2019

I’ve been doing CAS for about 5 months now and in these last five months I’ve learned a lot. One of the biggest things I have taken from the CAS experience is the importance of supporting your friends and classmates during their projects, coming to their events, helping plan events, etc. My class, has been through a lot together we have fallen apart and come together many times but I have never seen my class support each other as much as we did for Día de las Mascaradas. Día de las Mascaradas is a party thrown yearly at the end of October by Student Sponsoring Students (SSS), Stacy and Cata’s CAS project. In the months leading up to Día de las Mascaradas they had meetings weekly to which over half the class showed up to weekly. There were disagreements and dilemas but everyone was in. The day of the event the whole class helped set up. Luca, Raphael, Daniel, Miss Amy and I blew up 100+ balloons while Julie, Rachel and Jimena hung up banners. Alessandra, Lina, Amanda, Nicolle, and Stefano set up the haunted house while Kati and Cindy put together the maze. Stacy and Cata running around orchestrating it all. The event was such a success SSS raised over $1,000 for the scholar ship fund and Cata and Stacy were praised for their success.

IB is crazy. We are all running around trying to do our best but if we just stop for a moment to lend a hand and support one another it’s a whole lot better. This event was an example of the whole 11th grade coming together and now I am inspired to support more and to cheer my classmate through IB and CAS cause we are in this together.

Thank you for reading,

Grace
