Ethical Journal Entry

Moral absolutism considers certain actions as right or wrong, regardless of culture or religion. This theory states that morals are inherent in the laws of the universe, the nature of humanity, and the will of God. It is important to recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions in my project as some of our choices to accomplish our goals need to be ethically considered. For example, we are starting to collect the necessary data to install trash bins in Potrero Beach, however, we cannot just install them and forget about them; we have to consider the ethics of this and make sure that we communicate well with the eco-blocks company in Nicoya for them to collect the trash. If this fails, trash will accumulate until the bins are full, thus making it fall off, fly away, or get taken away by the tide, which is considered ethically wrong by the moral absolutism theory as it is wrong to pollute. Another example will be that we make sure the trash collected in this weekend’s clean-up will be effectively managed to make sure that it will not end up back at the beach or some other place where it may pollute more. We will have to consider the ethics of our actions and do the right thing, which in this case is effectively managing the trash. By considering the ethical implications in my CAS project, I am able to make better moral judgments in my daily life as I am able to effectively understand the ethics of working with the environment and thus identify with ease ethical or unethical decisions that other individuals take towards the environment. An example is when I saw a small child littering when he had a trash bin nearby. By considering the ethics of my actions in my CAS project, I was able to immediately identify how the actions of the child were wrong, and how my idea of having workshops in other schools to promote ways to be more sustainable and teach future generations the importance of being sustainable will help these children understand how it is ethically correct to place trash in the right place.
