February Brasilito Clean-Up

This weekend we had our first clean-up of 2020. We demonstrated how to initiate and plan a CAS experience as, in this case, we planned it without collaborating with other projects or organizations. We were effective in choosing the location as Brasilito Beach had a high amount of trash. Once we arrived, we identified a high amount of glass underneath a boat, and we spoke with the parking lot guard that seemed interested in what we were doing. We explained the importance of effectively managing waste, and how it wasn't effective for people to pollute. We then spent around an hour and a half cleaning up around 1.5 kilometers of beach. It was a very effective clean-up, we collected a high amount of bags, and we got different people who were enjoying the beach to help us out. Due to the high amount of glass bottles, we donated the four bags of glass to a local glass recycling plant in Surfside. This event made me relate to the thinker IB learner profile, as the planning involved lots of thinking to decide the location and the time. During the clean-up a lot of thinking was involved as well because we had to think about what we would do with the glass, and how to create a safe route as the beach had a high amount of sea snakes in the sand. Being a thinker was effective to help me make the clean-up effective.
