Focus
Across the last week, I have been reading the book The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck for my English IA. It forces me to focus on what I am reading and the expectation to understand the text adds another layer of accountability as I must complete it to find a 40 line passage from the book. At first, this was going great and I had found a passage for my IA that was great and I was ecstatic. Although this made my motivation drop the goal was met, so what else did I have to do? Although I pushed through and continued to read. It for me is an exercise where my brain is training to focus on each word that Steinbeck is saying and it is a challenge as he is one of the most descriptive authors. It helped me train to shut off distractions and therefore focus on the class that I am in. This will help me in CAS to just sit down and focus when I am helping someone, it is the time in my project where I must be focused on one thing and one variable. This week in CAS I worked on talking with students and Miss Audrey and this week's class now has at least one person which is super exciting. Luckily my math project works great online and only benefits from being online, although the one extremely damaged project is student government. Last year I did student government online but it sucked and was hard to get things done so as we continue this next week I plan to focus on organizing student government.
