December 9-15——Trip to Boston

Our current situation and main challenge

One of the biggest challenges we have been having is buying the plane tickets to go to Boston. One of the major factors that influenced this was starting the entire process very late because we relied on other people to help us start it. At the same time, from our part we missed the opportunity to buy them at a very low price at the beginning because we let time passed, and the prices kept increasing. Another factor was that we took a lot of time to get the forms and papers done to set up an interview at the Embassy and also to pay for the visas. Lately, we have been checking the price of the tickets and we realized that the prices were higher than expected. Due to this is that we haven’t been able to buy them, as we now need more money than the one we were expecting to need. This is something that we would change and improve if there was a next time. Leaving things that you have to do for later, is something that you shouldn’t do as they can get forgotten no matter how responsible and proactive you are. As a result we will need to work ten times harder these two months before the trip to fundraise the rest of the money needed. We will be planning as many fundraisers as possible, starting with a tea party for the students and a board game night for parents, with which we hope to fundraise around 500 dollars to buy the tickets and extra money to take with us as a group on the trip. In order to do this, we have already reached out to many people that will be helping us with some details of the events. For the board game night which will be on November 8th, we spoke to Angela who is a member of our community that focuses on planning events for the families of La Paz. We have most of the logistics, we are now only missing information from Cocina La Paz to see if they would be willing to take lead on the food that we would be selling during the event. The other event that will be happening this upcoming week is the Tea party for students from Miravalles, Arenal and Tenorio, where they will be able to come spend time with their friends, converse and play some fun activities while drinking tea and eating pastries. We will give them the opportunity to dress up and have fun wearing their favorite outfits appropriate for this occasion. The entrance fee will be around $5 and we are hoping to get many students to be part of this event in order to fundraise some money! We hope everything goes as planned with this event and the upcoming ones, as we continue to work extremely hard and put a lot of time/effort into finishing our project!
