Global Conversations related to my CAS project- Catalina

17/11/2019

The following is a series of global conversations that relate to the Youth of the community and their importance.

  • Journal post by Darryl Bautista. Journal titled, “Teens can be motivated to make positive change”. “As teenagers, we often are not taken seriously by authority. We are held hostage by the assumption we are troublemakers and can do no good” (Bautista). This journal vlog can connect to my CAS project because many times teenagers are not taken seriously, therefore many times our ideas tend to be ignored. With my CAS project, I aspire to give more teenagers of the community a voice and to create a group of youth that are empowered individuals and leaders of the community. Us teenagers have a stereotype that we are lazy and don’t try hard, but with Terraza, we are trying to claim that stereotype wrong and prove the authorities wrong by doing things for the community that are not being done by older people.
  • Teen Ink magazine post by Kaylee. “Don’t get me wrong, being a teen is hard and annoying. It’s a time that adults look upon with embarrassment and annoyance. Nonetheless, it’s a time to figure out your talents, what you like and your perspective in life. Being a teen is not very easy or inspirational”. In Terraza, we want to be able to give the youth a safe environment where they can pursue their dreams. We want to make teens feel like anything is possible if they put hard work and dedication into it. We want to help teenagers be on the right path for their future and allow them to chase that dream that may appear impossible.
  • Twitter post by PIVOT4U. “Your life has a purpose. Your story is important. Your dreams count. Your voice matters. You were born to make an impact. #teenempowerement”. This twitter post by PIVOT4U very much connects to the concept of Terraza Youth Center because we believe that every life has a purpose and no one should ever feel otherwise or excluded. We want teenagers to be able to belong somewhere and can have a place where they can feel loved. We want to give teenagers a voice and to have an impact on the community.
  • Twitter post by MW2HN. “Although we as youth may be only 20% of the population, we are 100% of the future… We are in this together!” This tweet connects to my CAS project because in Terraza we create events that are for the youth of Tamarindo and its surroundings so that they are distracted from getting involved with bad habits such as alcoholism or drugs. We are trying to give the youth the space they need in order to grow to be successful, this goes hand in hand with the future because since teenagers are the minds of the future, in Terraza we strive to educate and create successful leaders.
  • Instagram post by My Therapy Corner, “ Fitting in is becoming who you think you need to be in order to be accepted. Belonging is being your authentic self and knowing that no matter what happens, you belong to you”. This Instagram post talks about the difference between belonging and fitting in. In Terraza, we welcome individuals from different socioeconomic backgrounds, ages, genders, communities, and we value every single individual for how special they are. This is why in Terraza it is not about fitting in but about belonging and being yourself. We try to embrace the uniqueness in people and how weird and crazy each person can be.
