Over the break with the global pandemic as an athlete, it was frustrating for my teammates and I. Our gym was closed and there was nowhere to train, along with that we had no coach. It wasn’t an option to put all of theĀ hard work that our team had put in all to go away; so I took matters into my own hands and began hosting weight lifting classes for my team.
It started out by everyone bringing the weights they had at home to one location outdoors. At first we only had one or two dumbells so we had to use a lot of our body weight. It was hard to train as I was planning the workouts for everyone and I knew little to nothing about training.
Over time we began getting more and more people and I began researching better training exercises, workouts and weight lifting techniques. The class was only meant for one or two people and it began picking up steam at times having up to 8-10 people. Our location got too small and we had to move to a new one. After talking with my mom she let me host the workouts at our guest house. And with more people came more weights.
3 Months later the class has grown and going strong as ever. I am proud that through these hard times I was able to make a difference in my community.
