- I'll be flying first to Cape Town for a few days to recover from jet lag before heading to Botswana. I can share accommodation options with anyone who wants to do the same.
There's a direct flight from Cape Town to Maun on Airlink Airlines which you can book online using this link
Airlink Airlines. We all need to be on the same plane to Maun because we will then proceed on a pre booked small plane to Vumbura airstrip. Now that our dates are finalized here are the flight details so you can book your own
Airlink flight.
- Sept 22 2025 Airlink 4Z314
- Dep CPT 10:35
- Arr Maun 13:05
- Sept 28 2025 Airlink 4Z315
- Dep Maun 13:50
- Arr CPT 16:20
To be able to land on the remote Vumbura airstrip, we have to have permission from Wilderness Safaris who manage it. So rather than me booking with Mack Air, the flight will be booked by Bushman Plains through Wilderness Safaris who I think use Mack Air - and the pricing ended up being the same (just logistical requirements to keep everyone happy).
- I've flown both Airlink and Mack Air multiple times with efficient, smooth experiences.
- One of Tebogo's team will meet us at the landing strip with a vehicle to transport us to Bushman Plains Camp, belonging to Teddy's Uncle, where we'll spend 6 nights.
A vital component of Tebogo's Mowana Rehabilitation Program is conservation education in the local Gunotsoga Primary School. We want to share this magical place with you so you can see and feel the enthusiasm of the Head Mistress and the children. While I say local, it is a 3 hour drive each way from our camp, so we're looking into the possibility of going by helicopter - I'm hoping it's less expensive in Botswana as their use is more common and widespread due to the vastness of the floodplain. Stay tuned.
- Latest update: Using a small helicopter, R44, to transport half of us at a time is the most time/cost effective plan. We will fly in two groups, one at a time, and have 3 hours on the ground to visit the school.
