In the first week of this project, I learned how to do a lot of different things, such as creating a research document, a cover letter, and how to participate in an interview. Learning how to do these things helps me to understand the job of a human resources manager at a deeper level because I now can understand all the factors they have to consider when they are hiring someone, which is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their jobs. I now have knowledge of how I can present myself in the most effective way when it comes to applying for a job and all of the steps that are a part of that process. In turn, I feel like I will be more prepared for when I do apply for jobs in the future.
A company can use the tools that we learned about not only for hiring employees (although they are very useful for that aspect of the process) but also for other areas of human resources planning. In a cover letter and in interviews, human resources managers can learn about potential employees’ skills and involve them in the company. This way, when they are training employees, they can focus on areas that they may need to work on, which would make the training a more effective process. In turn, they would also be able to recognize what certain employees are good at and use these strengths to complete tasks in a collaborative and effective manner. It would also help to create a better connection with employees as the more human resources managers understand their employees, the more effectively and helpfully they can look after their emotional wellbeing.
I think that this project has definitely helped me to comprehend the world outside of myself because I now understand how different organizations work and how they choose and train employees. I can use this knowledge for my project to understand what the people at Abriendo Mentes are looking for in a volunteer and make sure I am living up to those responsibilities, which in turn will make me a better person and educator.
