HR Project Reflection Week 4

Although this week had less content due to the Bachi exams, I think this was the week that I learned the most, especially about myself and what I need to do to improve my online learning experiences.

This week I wanted to implement a variety of different focus activities into my daily life to see what worked best for me. I found a few that worked well for me, such as timing periods when I needed to focus and taking breaks in between. Another practice that I found very helpful was checking in on myself frequently when I needed to be attentive to make sure I was actually paying attention and taking in information. This helped me to become more aware of myself and helped me to recognize when I found myself falling out of focus. A different exercise I tried that I thought was helpful was strengthening my willpower to avoid distractions, which as I was watching the TED talk, I realized can connect to Daniel Pink and his theory of motivation.

In the TED talk, there’s a moment where he talks about how we should approach motivation through self-determination. I think that this has a lot to do with willpower, as you need to be able to find intrinsic motivation and be disciplined in order to have this ability to avoid procrastinating and distractions. This video and the content overall was very helpful for me this week because it taught me that I need to find motivation within myself in order to get things done. I also realized that a reason why I usually find it hard to motivate myself is that I need to create an environment where I can work and a mindset to get things done. As I’m writing this, I’m remembering something that Profe Zuñiga said once which was, (I don’t remember exactly what he said but it was something like this) “Discipline is more important than motivation sometimes. Once you’re disciplined you can make yourself motivated”. This is something that will stick with me for a long time.
