June 11th, 2020,
The last class I had with my two students was a weird one. They both didn't show up at the same time and I wasn't sure if they were actually going to come.
Ashley showed up first and we talked through her idea, then she left and about five minutes later Regan poped on. She couldn't find the paper that she had her idea written on, so she struggled to remember it. But we talked through what she remembered. Hopefully setting her up to be successful in her writing this week.
But it wasn't the best class, kind of awkward and they were not super engaged or prepared. I think they might have forgotten what time it was at so I made it clearer in my email this week and put what they had to bring in the email as well.
This, like everything else, would be a whole lot easier if it was in person. Online learning/teaching is no fun.
However, it has given me more time and brain space to thoughtful plan out my CAS project and I have learned new ways to be organized and new techniques to motivate and engage with students. I want to continue to apply the motivation theories I have learned into this class. I want to give them challenging work (Herzberg's motivators ), I want them to feel like there a purpose, autonomy, and mastery.
I'm looking forward to my next class with them since I am always inspired by their creativity and I hope it is more successful than last week's.
Thanks for reading,
Grace
