Update: HR Week 4 Reflection _ Grace Herman
HR Week 4 Reflection _ Grace Herman
May 20th, 2020,
This week I kicked off my project and start to interact with my audience, my students.
Me and Ms. Amy decided to alter the project to have it be an optional option for students who were actually interested in creative writing. This is great cause it allows me to start with students who are intrinsically motivated to write.
We put out a survey and 2 of the 6th graders were interested. I meet with Miss Amy and she gave me advice on how to plan the classes and how to present my ideas to them in an effective way.
Having Miss Amy as a mentor here and with her guiding me on how to teach has allowed me to realize what my One Act project was missing. I now know that whenever we get back to school and if I restart that project I need to plan backward and take more of a leadership role.
I wrote an email to the two girls and asked them for times that would work and after that, I will invite them to a weekly zoom call, get to know them, and kick start the writing process.
The act of doing this scares me a bit because it's not like I'm an actual writing teacher I don't feel like I know thousands of things about writing I just know I love to do it and I hope that I can help guide them and encourage their love of writing. I'm especially excited because one of the girls wants to learn about scriptwriting which is my favorite.
Overall I'm excited about where this is heading and I want this workshop to be a more successful one than my last creative endeavor. And I think I have the tool to make it more successful.
Thanks for reading,
Grace
