The theory of ethics i was assigned in TOK class was rule utilitarianism. The theory states that at any time, it’s necessary to perform the action which results in the best consequences. Specifically for rule- utilitarianism, this action is determined by rules. For example, there are set rules for drivers, like stop at red lights, stay under the speed limit, etc. Rule utilitarians state that by performing this theory, the results of an action will be better than acting by any other judgement. 

Because I’m working with professionals, I need to follow utilitarian theory. Doctors have a specific protocol that they must follow in order to obtain the best results. When making the decision if I wanted to do this project, I had to keep in mind all the protocols I must follow along with the doctors. An example of this is when I had to follow a protocol in order to have the proper permission from the Ministerio de Salud. I had to make many calls and present the project to different doctors from the Ministerio and follow. 

By following this theory of rule utilitarian i can achieve my goals with the best results possibles. For example, i will be taking my driving test in a few weeks, if i follow the rules correctly, i will have my license, however, if i just do what i feel like doing, i will not have my license. This is because, as the theory states, there are a set of rules that must be followed in order to have the best results.
