Journal entry #1

1. What is the meaning of CAS to you? Why is it something that is required by the IB and the MEP? Why did you choose to do your project? What resources are available to help you succeed?

Well for me the meaning of CAS is obviously creativity activity and service, CAS has a huge meaning to me in the sense that it makes me understand what other people are going through such as the things that they need, I also like understand that many factors can affect our community and the most important thing is being able to grow together and decrease people in need and also that we should create something that can provide our community with a lot of benefits. 

So the MEP and IB created this program because it’s something that will teach you to value what you have. After all, others do not have the same opportunity as you.  I feel like this program is something that gives back to our community and helps teenagers have other kids. It’s also educational because throughout students’ study there’s like an involvement with the activities with other students from other schools to get to know each other and like get alongside through their school experience.

2. How has CAS changed because of COVID? Or has it? Have the community’s needs changed? If so, how? If not, explain.

Covid has changed CAS so much because before, we were normally able to personally speak to the people we were going to help. Many of us had plans to go visit people in person since we have been in quarantine for many months. 

Our community has changed too much in the way that many people need food and among other things because they have lost their jobs and need to feed their families.

3. Evaluate the project that you are doing. Talk about it with your group. Have your group give you feedback and insight. Does it still make sense now? If not, why? Is so, how?

So my project is the trip to Boston now that COVID is going around, I doubt it too much because it is something very difficult. Since I have to do the COVID tests, be in my forties for two weeks, stay there for three weeks, get so much money, pay so much, pay for visas, try to stay safe, and create a plan to go there.

4. What are the first steps? How are you going to show progress by next week? How will you manage my time?

My first step is I’m getting the list of the kids on Tuesday 9th and I dont want to talk with them because I don’t want to disappoint you because I was telling you something false. And I actually want to change my project.

5. How can you make the time that you are doing CAS, time that is not in front of a screen? Is that possible with your project? Is there something that you can create without much screen time? And how do we document it?

I can make my CAS project effective by trying to find websites to create an account and make money from donations. Im also going to be contacting Ashley and Melanie so they can also give me some ideas because they told me that they could help me get some great results and ideas for it.
