Journal entry 1

This project is something that I’ve thought about basically since I was introduced to the idea of CAS many years ago. At the time my vision wasn’t as clear but I knew I wanted to make a change within our community and raise awareness about something I’m very passionate about and feel like it doesn’t get discussed enough. Through this project, I hope to inform my surrounding community and even if possible using tools like social media, be able to expand and have a network where I can post information about our effect on the climate and especially the effect our diet has on the environment. I hope I’ll be able to save or better the lives of many animals, be able to provide families with lower incomes with the possibility to give their animal care, and educate them on the importance of being able to provide for your pets if you choose to get one. My eventual goal would be to work with a nearby shelter to allow them to expand or improve their area and maybe even organizations that are already established in the area. I hope my fundraisers are successful and bring our community together while being informative. Being able to carry out a project like this would show colleges first of all many of my skills and responsibility but also my concern for this issue which aligns with what I’m interested in studying. This is something very important to me because since I was younger it has always been an issue of significance to me, from smaller-scale things like the violence pets suffer in homes to the large systematic killing and abuse of animals in the food industry. I feel like the idea of being plant-based many times is perceived as extreme and ridiculed at least from my personal experience so I want to be able to bring awareness and maybe help change that perception since it’s really a key issue that we have to start facing as the diet most people have is very unsustainable. This project is definitely going to require a lot of time and organization and I know that since I’m such a perfectionist sometimes I tend to spend more time than necessary on things. I think this project will allow me to manage my time better, improve my communication skills, and definitely increase my knowledge and experience in this area.
