July 20th- 27th _ Grace Herman

July 27th 2019

This last week we planned and had two events. On Thursday we had surf and pancakes, which is an event we do around once a month. And the next day, Friday we had a game night.

The turnout for Surf and pancakes mostly consisted of the mission group we had visiting from Uruguay and a couple of other kids. We went and surfed then made food together, ate, talked and played. A couple of people stopped by without surfing just to enjoy the company. Which is to me what Terraza should and can be, good company.

The game night was a huge success. BCC brought a huge group of around 30 teens and lots of Tamarindo teens showed up. We set up and cleaned the space before hand not expecting this turnout. We didn’t bring enough popcorn. The place was packed! Everyone huddled around games, music blasting. This night was special because it showed and example of what Terraza could be. I convinced Sara Trimachri to come, she was nervous because none of her friends were coming and she didnâ’t want to be alone. I told her I would hang out with her but she didn’t even need me. She made friends with this girl who is fairly new to Tamarindo and they hit it off. The possibility of this makes me excited. Terraza is a place to hang out with friends and above that a place to make new friends. It starts with us the leaders being welcoming and loving and then our people can do the same to others. This is something I consider a strength of mine and is my favorite part of working at Terraza, I can’t wait to do it for the next 17 months.

Ideas for Terraza:

  • Create a resource for teenagers to find jobs (place of opportunity).
  • Get service groups from the states to come down to help serve our community and fund the youth center.
  • Rent space to other CAS projects.
  • Have Terraza be the “home” of CAS. Space for events, a community willing to help CAS projects, service groups could help other CAS projects.

Thanks for reading,

Grace
