March 16, 2020

Costa Rica is now in a national emergency. The covid-19 is a virus that is affecting not only the health aspect, but social and economical aspects of the country. Today, Monday 16, 2020, the government has closed the borders of the country in order to prevent the rapidly spreading of the virus. The virus has arrived to the community which is even more important now to be careful and apply all the engine suggestions the government has given us. Staying at home is the best option the community has.

In my case, my dad has heart issues and my sister has respiratory issues, which makes us worry even more when referring to the virus. We are very careful with where we go out and we even try to avoid leaving the house. My dad stopped going to work because of a possible case among the workers, which is the best to prevent him from having the virus. The role I take as part of the community is to stay at home to prevent and protect people from having the virus. The role I take with my friends in the community is to communicate any update or important aspect of the virus. As a group, we keep each other infomed and we advise each other.

Referring to my CAS project, I continue working in collecting all the money needed. Because the campaign has been dated for May 16. I met with the doctors and we decided to wait for the date to approach to see if we should move the date. It would all depend on how the Covid-19 is affecting the country during those dates. I will continue to work in the campaign looking for sponsors and make the order for all of the medical supplies.

Since I have a facebook page that is widely known by the community by now, I will inform the community of the different ways they can stay safe. As well as any update of decisions the government is making upon this virus. Such as the closing of bars and borders. This is a national emergency in which we all need to take different roles to prevent the spreading of this virus. I will do all I can to keep my family secure and stay home.

The best way to prevent and stop the fast spreading is to stay at home and maintain distance from other people. This is not affecting my project as much. However, it is preventing me from meeting with the sponsor. By the end of the month I need $5.000 to be able to buy all the medical supplies. If I don’t buy all the supplies by the end of the month, they won’t arrive on time and that would be a huge issue. I have been working from home and made a digital presentation that I’ve sent to different possible sponsors.  However, some of them rather get together and talk about it in person, but because of the circumstance, especially because of the cases I have at home, I prefer avoid the interaction with others and do my best to convince the sponsor from a video call, voice call or even just with the digital presentation i made. Today I have $1,025 and I am running out of time, however I am not giving up. I will continue working from home and accomplish the goal by the end of the month as planned.
