Math Tutoring

This week I will be focusing on the planning and initiation about a new segment of my project. Here at La Paz community school, there has always been a large number of students who struggle in math. I am lucky by the fact that I have worked hard to develop math skills and find outlets for me to learn more math. I wanted to find a way where I could use my skills and abilities regarding math to benefit the community around me. Over the break I tutored Luca Maring and realized that I had developed my ability to teach. I had also received a WhatsApp from a La Paz graduate about a student that needed math help. This opened my eyes to the demand of a service that I could provide. Also with the restructuring of my CAS project I had an open time slot that I could use for this goal of mine. In the article it talks about producing more than you consume. As learners we most certainly consume more than we produce although this is an opportunity to create more balance between the ratio of the amount I produce to the amount I consume. It also mentions scheduling of your day, I always use the period after school on Wednesdays to work on my homework. This is a time where my mind is focused and would be a perfect time to have an option for others to work on their homework with me and ask questions as we go along. But then comes the logistics of the planning process. In an online circumstance this project would be extremely simple. I had been online every Wednesday for school since March of 2020, I was home right after school ended and just wouldn’t move from my desk and would work. For this project I could just open a zoom call and people could trickle in and out of the call asking questions or having me guide them through problems they are having. Although we are moving all in person starting on the 1st of February. Now I would have to consider my ability to stay after school (I live far away, how would I get a ride), how accessible is it to those who need it (do they have a ride?), but most importantly how could I do an intergrade activity under COVID-19 protocols. My idea that I have now are to create bubble specific tables or groups. I should also do it in an open area, maybe in front of the Snack Shack. All of these I would have to consider while also getting approval from the school operations team. To get this ready for next Wednesday I plan to this week before Saturday, decide on whether or not to have it online or in person, create specific protocols and run it by the school operations team, and promote my services on Families of La Paz, and through morning meetings and google classroom. This will test my communication skills over the next week, the ability to inform people across my community in a timely manner in a professional way.
