November 24, Eitan, Nate and I had a meeting with the director of Abriendo Mentes this afternoon at 4. We all forgot to take a picture together with Grettel but I snapped this picture of the building as I was driving home.
I picked the boys up at school and we went home to have a snack and to discuss the meeting. It was mostly a snack. :) I realize how important it is for them to have a quick break after school - with food - so that they can be ready for the next activity. We did discuss the questions and they remembered that they had made them a couple of weeks ago.
The meeting was in Spanish. Once we found the building, it was a very informative meeting. We got a little lost because Grettel gave us the Costa Rican directions - La dirección es: de la iglesia católica de Potrero 200mts norte, casa a mano derecha con murales de colores. We had to walk down the road and ask some people for help. But we arrived!
Grettel was amazing - she answered all the questions and gave us information about the organization and some ideas of where the boys could support.
What came out of the meeting was that Abriendo Mentes was excited about the group doing something in the community. The group that we want to work with would start in August! That gives us time to get the Las Catalinas community project up and running and then we can incorporate the Potrero teenagers. It also is an excellent start to their CAS projects - combining activity and service together. I am sure that we can get creativity in there too!
Here are our questions for the director of Abriendo Mentes in Potrero.
