Mentor journal entry

My final objective for this project is to be able to bring veterinary care to abandoned, mistreated animals and give access to families that don’t have the financial means to pay for this care. Veterinary expenses are extremely high here and therefore people many times don’t give their pets the care they need or deserve in some cases simply because they can’t afford it. Although this is my general objective I have many smaller goals that I need to achieve to reach this. These smaller goals require different mentors as they need different knowledge. The goal I’m focusing on right now is creating a successful fundraiser, for this my mentors will be my parents. My fundraiser is a tennis/pickleball tournament. I chose them as my mentors because firstly they are the owners of the business where I will host this event. Additionally my dad is a tennis coach and has so much experience organizing tennis and pickleball tournaments, and he already has formed a community of players. I chose my mom because she has a lot of experience organizing events, fundraisers and has so many connections in our community. Since they are my parents, communication is very easy and they already have a good understanding of my project. I’m gonna ask them for contacts, approval of my plan, ideas to organize the tournaments and how to create more involvement. Being able to have the support of my parents for this is extremely motivating, helpful and will allow my fundraiser to be successful. We have already discussed many aspects of my fundraiser and having my mom as my mentor has been extremely useful as she gives me feedback on my ideas and helps me come up with new ones that will generate more funds. 

Once the fundraising part of my project has been completed my mentor will change. I have already contacted 3 people that could be my mentors as I begin working to bring veterinary care to animals. My main mentor will be Gilberth who is a veterinarian working in Cavallini and owns the shelter. I have already been in communication with him through whatsapp and have had short meetings with him to introduce my project and make sure I had their support. He obviously has a lot of experience in veterinary care and also regarding adoptions, fixing campaigns and just has so much knowledge that will be key for my project and to accomplish my goals. I have many questions that I have already established for him that will be useful in the future like: In which way can I help improve the shelter for the animals that stay there, expanding, food, toys, beds?
