July 22nd, 2019
On July 19th we had our big fundraiser, Chad Gaston came to share his story about climbing Mount Everest. The turnout was amazing! We had around 70 people show up to hear his story. Sharkys provided drinks and donated the profit to us and the student leadership team brought desserts. Let me paint a picture of the event. It started at 7 pm and guests slowly started filtering in. They talked, bought drinks, bought food and settled in to hear Chad’s amazing story. We started the show with little speeches from me Ashely and Cats explaining what the youth center is and introducing Chad. Then all eyes were on Chad. He told his story, which by the way is amazing. After he shared his story Ashley stood up told everyone a little more about what the youth center is and asked people to consider sponsoring up. We passed our commitment cards and pens. As people filled out we got a few cards back, some giving donations or donating skills, classes or time. Not very many people gave their cards back and I was a little disappointed. Until I was walking around town today with Ashley and Cata and ran into Cata Kiss from papaya con leche. She told us she had hung onto the card and was thinking about it and want to donate prizes from time to time, which is so cool. There we go one more business that is interested and willing to help. We talked to her awhile about what Terraza is, how we want to get the community more involved and how she wanted to help hopefully in the future, it was cool, and fulfilled the purpose of the event. It got people to know who we are, what we are about and got them talking about it. This made me happy and hopeful. On top of that, we counted the money from the event today and we made over 1,000 dollars which will help pay utilities and rent.
We also had a leadership meeting today and these are the events we are working on planning:
Thursday, July 25th, 7-9 pm – Game Night
