What are some interesting aspects of your project that you think people should know about?
- The December recital is not the typical performance my studio puts on every year. This year it is a 360 performance meaning there are stages in every corner of the area. Additionally, it will present the choreography of students for the first time. The dancers at the studio have not been able to dance on stage for about two years, which is why this experience is so important. It will show the community the creativity and improvement the girls have gone through recently.
What do you need from the community?
- Part of our CAS project is to raise funds for the dance studio and its scholarship program. We would love it if our community would donate to our project in order to sponsor students and pay for equipment.
Deadlines or pertinent information that the parents can remember.
Our first exhibition or showcase is on December 4. It will be made up of both dances choreographed by the studio's teachers and us. The numbers choreographed by us are part of our project. We have worked with a group of girls to choreograph and teach them about dance.

- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
Along with Ava and Hunter, we initiated and planned a new CAS experience by working collaboratively and communicating with our mentor, Gaby Abarca. We discussed the problem needing to be addressed and created a plan on how to solve it. As a result, we created a recital and taught girls how to dance at superior levels.
- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
In order to maintain a practice every week with my students, I had to wake up early, choreograph throughout the week, and dedicate time to each student. For the span of the last few months, I had to commit and persevere through challenges such as lack of time, early mornings, late nights, and scheduling issues. I am proud to admit that I am almost done with the dance and will have my final two rehearsals in the next two weeks.
- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Throughout this process, I have encountered multiple challenges and had to uncover ways to solve them. My biggest challenge was understanding the level of the girls. I started out being very hard on them and pushing them to their limit. I didn't realize until later that they are not used to the same amount of pressure and training that I am used to. I had to adapt to their abilities and change my attitude and choreography. Recently I have injured my knee and have been unable to perform to the best of my ability, making it much harder to teach and show the little girls how to properly execute a move. I asked for assistance from Gaby and was able to work around my injury and teach the girls the end of the number.
