Core values that inspired my project were compassion, commitment and ethics.
My culture has affected my project in a few different ways. One of them is that since I am from the US the view on animals is very different. Learning that people here might have a different view on spaying and neutering animals or even on how to treat a pet. It has been very difficult to understand people’s different views. One large core value I have that does not pertain to some parts of my project is my ethical integrity. I feel that some things I have to do for my project do not work for that value since I often have to help out with projects that might be less ethical. Some of the things that Barbara says I also don’t agree with, like her letting kittens die of natural causes that could be treated with medicine. I have to realize that sometimes values aren’t the only important part of life but that having enough money for other animals instead of spending it all on a kitten that might not make it.
I have a lot of issues with motivation for my project. I have to do things in my project that I enjoy to keep myself motivated. This includes fostering dogs to make up for the fact that I also have to write journal entries that are not as fun. It is easier to keep up with my CAS project and stay motivated if I continue to update Ms. Amy on what I am doing. One of the most difficult things of my CAS project is having to go every week to walk dogs and care for the other animals. It is fun and not too hard, but since I wake up at 5am to go to horseback Saturday morning and then go to Barbara’s right after that I can get very tired. My culture does affect my motivation since I come from a very motivated family. When I am not totally motivated I am able to talk to my parents and they are able to motivate me.
