Right now I am still working with Barbara at her shelter and continuing to rescue and spay/neuter cats in Mar Vista. For the next three weeks I am going to talk to Barbara about fostering more and hopefully creating a fundraiser for her next castration event. I am also working with one of my old foster dogs in her new home on her behavioral issues. So far everything has been going well and I have a clear plan for what I need to do for the next few months. I am hoping that I can work even more with Barbara on more advanced issues like helping her build out her cat room. I am also trying to help out with some things in Mar Vista that pertain to my CAS project. I have been trying to prepare a birthing area for a pregnant cat I am feeding as well as treating small wounds on the male cats that have been fighting around my area. Overall, this part of my project is going super well and I do not foresee having any major issues in the future.
I picked this project for a few reasons, the first being a little selfish. I love animals and I hate the way they are treated all over the world. I also find it much easier to work with animals and people who work with animals. I am able to communicate with a lot of people easily to keep my CAS project going. The people I work with are very different but I get along with them very well. It has taken time but they now respect me and my decisions and opinions. I picked the shelter that I volunteer at because it is super close so I am able to go there a lot. I also think that it is hard for a lot of people to work with Barbara, so the fact that I am able to help her helps the animals at the shelter a lot. I want to be able to actually make a difference in the way animals are treated here which is great because Barbara has the same goals. Not only do I help with the animals but I also help her find animal abusers and report them to the police with evidence. Barbara is an interesting person, but she does agree with the values I have in my CAS project and I am able to work with her to accomplish my goals for CAS and even personal goals.
