Throughout this break I have been working towards finishing my IA’s, summing up CAS, and applying to colleges. These three things are all involved in service to those around me as well as myself. Throughout my CAS experience I have been able to provide my community with a small piece of what it needs and through this I have provided a service to myself. This is something I love about CAS, it’s a class that allows you the freedom to do what you love and in turn you gain a sense of self, accomplishment, and helps direct you in life.
This month is my last official month of CAS. I tried to do the most I could to the best of my ability in order to end strong. This vacation the two main pieces of service that stood out to me were a food drive and of course the christmas party. However the food drive was something new for me. We personally delivered boxes of about 70$ of food to people’s homes. Through this experience I was able to further understand the people we were helping and their situations. One woman we visited had recently lost her husband and was raising 7 children in a home that was about the size of our upstairs playroom. Once seeing the conditions these people lived in it helped further validate the help we were providing. They were so appreciative and so kind.
This is one little example of how our service helps impact those around us. Without CAS many kids in our community would not be doing impantiant things such as this. I will forever remember my experiences in CAS and I believe they will help guide me to what is to come.
