Student Government in October

October 27th, 2020, Throughout this month we have had weekly meetings and tried to initiate events within the community. But it's been hard. We haven't had much engagement from the community. At this point, about 7 months into online school, no one really cares about connecting anymore. In the beginning, it was something new and exciting and everyone would get together to have Netflix parties or play online card games but now everyone is over it and isn't super excited about joining online connection activities, who can blame them, I know I'm sick on being on zoom. Nevertheless, that's what student government's job is, to bring the high school community together with no school related activities to make high school more fun. Except we can't actually bring anyone together so it's a huge dilemma. We have tried to manage this by having activities during morning meetings and having easy competitions that they can engage in. But since we only have morning meeting once a week people end up forgetting we were doing anything in the first place. Facing this we are going to start using the lapaz_student Instagram to promote our activities, and all the members are going to repost the posts on their stories to spread the word. The meeting we had today was pretty rough. Not everyone made it, my power went out halfway through and we were a little discombobulated since we missed the meeting last week with the long weekend. However, a meeting I was very proud of was the meeting we had about two weeks ago. I'd noticed that we weren't getting anywhere since conversing on zoom often leads to talking in circles so I split the group into breakout rooms and had each the rooms plan and event for the month. It worked and we were able to plan a drawing contest and a costume contest. The drawing contest needs to be reannounced and a flyer needs to be made about it, but today I made a flyer for the costume contest and we are going to promote, promote, promote, to remind people for tomorrow and Friday. Looking forward we are trying to figure out if there is a way to have an event at the Centro Recreativo at the end of the trimester.
