Update: Summer Break Service Journal Entry
Summer Break Service Journal Entry
In the past couple of weeks, I've started taking the steps to implement an additional CAS project that I can take on while Abriendo Mentes isn't having classes. That way, I can adapt to the current situation and help out my community in a way that is safe for everyone involved. I am starting a garden and building a stand where most of the produce we grow can be placed outside my house where anyone from the community can take it if they need it. I was inspired by the huge efforts I have seen from La Paz and Abriendo Mentes and the way they have provided food for families, and I wanted to help in my own unique way. I am collaborating with a local gardener who is very skilled at gardening and agriculture-related subjects to build planters and set up everything. Also, right now I am working with my dad to design the stand that the fruits and vegetables will go out on, which I will later build and decorate with the title "Comida Para Compartir". I live in a small town where the two closest grocery stores don't have much fresh produce available, so this project will help me provide an opportunity for a healthy lifestyle to the people in my community. So far I am very excited about the project and am looking forward to working on everything that I have planned so far. Of course, I will continue to help Abriendo Mentes in any way that they may need, but I am taking on this additional project until it's safe to go back to teaching classes with the kids.
Learning Outcomes:
-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
-Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
