Summer Dance Intensive

One activity I did on my summer vacation was when I participated in a four day dance intensive at a studio in Colorado. Each day we had four hours with distinct styles and teachers for each hour. It was an amazingly difficult and growing experience. I got to learn new and experienced styles at a deeper level. It was very active and it made me really sore which lets me know I am getting stronger. I want to apply the knowledge I have learned from each and every teacher at the intensive and apply them to the program I am creating for young dancers. This has the IB learner profile trait of ‘open minded’ because I am having an open mind of what I learned and applying it to my project. This activity can relate to the second CAS learning outcome of a challenge that gives me newly acquired skills. We can see this through the skills I have strengthened throughout the challenging intensive such as picking up choreography quicker, expressing myself to the fullest, pushing myself and much more. Through each teacher's unique point of view I was able to gain expertise on many different styles of dance. I can connect this to the IB learner profile trait of ‘risk takers’ because in every class I pushed myself to be the best I can be, take risks and have fun. One last outcome I can take out of this experience that I heard many teachers say is that dance is a language and you have to tell a story, be clear and expand your vocabulary. This connects to the IB learner profile trait of ‘communicators’ because through this experience I was learning how to become a stronger communicator through dance.
