Summer Journal Entry – Activity

This summer I visited Boulder Colorado, a beautiful place. Nearly every day we went on either a walk, hike, or bike ride. There were two hikes that stood out to me and were the most impressive. The first one on July 26th was up in the flatirons on bluebell trail and the second on July 29th we drove up to flagstaff mountain. My family and friend Anna, who was visiting us, took part in these hikes. Both hikes were around 2-4 miles, and very scenic, the temperatures were perfect around 75-80 degrees in the shade. Overall it wasn’t too strenuous, it felt very good to move around and get some exercise. Exercise always connects back to the IB learner trait of balanced for me. Balancing my mental and physical well-being is always difficult and getting out, doing some exercise will always help clear my mind and make me feel better. This activity also demonstrated risk-takers because there were definitely some parts of the hike that were a little sketchy, it got steep, and we hiked up quite far both times. The learning outcome of CAS that was demonstrated is LO #2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. By going out, and taking on the challenge of a hike in a new place, I not only developed more physical skills but opened my mind to greater opportunities in the future of exploring new places.
