The Conversation

This week in my class I wanted to try to have a competition with the people in my club about the trends and movements of the stock market. As we are currently in an election year that stock market it's very unpredictable and I wanted to briefly touch on why. My goal of the lesson was to have a good conversation with everyone so that they could get a better understanding of what is going on. While having this conversation it makes me feel proud of the knowledge and awareness that I have gained through my own CAS experience. Although I really wanted to have a good conversation sadly I wasn't able to have this conversation. I don't know if this is because they don't know enough or because they aren't engaged enough. This is tough because these conversations are difficult to have online and would be much more effective in person. This experience and challenges that I have been seeing with the engagement in my club have been a real struggle and have tested my ability to undertake a challenge within my CAS experience. My plan to try and take this issue is to step back from the focus on the competition within a main focus in the club and do it mainly separately with Ava and Miss Amy. Then in the club focus more on basic terms once every other week that is longer and more effective where I can engage the students and create a more effective learning environment. Although there are these struggles present in my CAS project I still think having these classes is good and creates a small impact on the students and that they can learn something. It has also benefited me as I have been able to continue to execute activities for my CAS project and now have experienced many different things that have tough me many of the 7 learning outcomes of CAS. Overall this week has confirmed that if I want to have effective classes where students are engaged and participating I have to make a few changes. But this is an obstacle that would present itself in any CAS project so I should not get frustrated but instead use it as a learning opportunity.
