Update: The First Webinar
The First Webinar
This week I went to the first of many web seminars that come with participating in the Wharton Global Youth program. The speaker was the CIO of the University of Pennsylvania, Peter Ammon. He focused on a variety of topics mostly being on industrial investment and how he as the head of the University of Pennsylvania endowment invests. This was super interesting because he invests in many different ways than the individual investor as he has many more resources and the ability for the university to continue many financially led projects is on his shoulders. I found some of his advice super interesting, but the one that was the most impactful was, invest in companies you admire, analyze why you like them and why you invest in them, and then look for similar characteristics within other companies. This speech allowed me to undertake challenges in my project, show commitment to my project and helped me identify my own areas of strengths and weaknesses. It allowed me to undertake new problems by giving me more knowledge and information that I could use to help teach those in my class. It allowed me to show commitment as I worked extremely hard to free up the period to attend the event. I took it upon myself to finish my math or day early making me spend 5 hours on math in one day. All to go to the webinar and I wouldn't go back and change it ever. Finally, it helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses as I realized I have a good base and need to have the confidence that I have sufficient knowledge to make executive investing decisions. Overall this was a great experience and can't wait to attend the next seminars.
