True Colors Journal Entry

What did you take away from reflecting on your own personal color style and that of others in the group?  The process of reflecting on our personal color began with determining the IB profile trait that best resembles you. In order to come to the conclusion that Balance represents me best, I was given feedback from my classmates to help me make the decision. After taking the color test, my result came back as a tie between orange and gold. This outcome was very surprising because gold and orange are complete opposites. Gold is about being organized, responsible, and structured, while orange is free-thinking and adventure. I ended up identifying more with gold, however, I do think the tie relates to my IB profile trait. Balance means understanding the importance of intellectual, physical, and emotional aspects of life. Tieing between gold and orange represents the balance in my life between being free and structured,  which I think is very important. I think this activity was super beneficial not only for us to learn about ourselves but also about our classmates. I have realized why I work better with certain peers compared to others. I now know how to effectively collaborate with certain people based on their needs and strengths defined by their color.

What observations can you make about the type of personal styles that we have as a group? As a group, we are pretty well divided into our colors. There was a sufficient amount of people in each group, demonstrating the various personalities that can be found in our class. This distribution, explains why our class acts the way we do especially around certain people. Our class is well structured into the different groups which are super beneficial because each person has their own important contribution to our class that allows us to accomplish all that we have done. I think our class has a personal style to everything we do. We have fun while still managing to get the job done to the best of our abilities. We also tend to make jokes amongst ourselves, while still having a great amount of respect for each other. Our personalities are able to shine through everything we do, which is why our style is different compared to other classes.

Is there a complementary color to yours? Explain which one and why. Despite being opposites in terms of personality I think Gold and Orange complement each other well. Someone who resembles gold will help maintain and keep orange focused and on task. Orange will help gold enjoy the situation and relieve any tendency of perfectionism presented in the gold.

What are ways we can take this information into our work in class or in our CAS projects to work collaboratively in positive ways? For my CAS project, I am working with two of my classmates, both of which resemble separate colors. Hunter is orange, she is free-thinking, energetic, and active. Ava on the other hand is blue, which means she is understanding, empathetic, and a great listener. The three of us being different personalities and colors is beneficial to our project because it will allow us to specialize in certain aspects, support each other’s needs and disadvantages and allow each other to perform to the best of our abilities. The incorporation of multiple colors will permit us to use various IB profile traits throughout the course of our project. The different colors have strengths and weaknesses that will need to be supported by the IB profile. For example, Hunter’s personality will challenge us to take risks and be risk-takers, while Ava will encourage us to show empathy and be caring to others.
