Service-Terraza Event
1/3/2019
Today we had a game night at Terraza. It started at 6 and ended at 9. While planning the event, there were a lot of struggles because Ashley wasn't in town and Grace and I had total control over Terraza. We didn't know if it was going to happen because of none of us we on the same page and there was lacking energy. The planning was hectic and we were lacking communication skills. This year, I want to work on the communication that we have with the team because no one responds in the group chat and the roles that we have are not clear. No one knows what they are responsible for and therefore nothing gets done. Today the event was successful because teenagers from the town joined us to have a fun game night. We had about 25 teenagers joining us. While sitting with Grace, we noticed that there were many youth at the skatepark that used to go to Terraza but now didn't. After the skatepark opened, the purpose of Terraza doesn't make sense because, with the skatepark, teens already have a safe place. We first had an idea of changing the location to a container next to the skatepark, making it more accessible in price and space. If we opened a container next to the skatepark, we could be self sustained with having to pay less rent and opening more hours. However, when analyzing thoroughly and telling my parents, they gave me a better idea, instead of having a physical space to run events, we could instead organize activities in the skatepark with ADI. This way, we would not have to worry about paying the rent, cleaning or even paying someone to work for us. If we transitioned into this idea, I feel like we could be able to use the wonderful spaces that the town of Tamarindo gives us.
I look forward to working with the members of Terraza in 2020 to create a more sustainable and ethical project.
