Week 2 journal entry

How are you feeling at the beginning of the project? Describe your feelings and how you are using strategies to manage them.
I am excited to see what my project creates and the experiences I will have. I am nervous and skeptical of the end result because there is no way I can guarantee it will end up exactly how I planned. By being reflective I have realized that I am the type of person who loves to be in control. I do my best to plan every scenario and activity no matter how far in advance it may be. This project pushes me to rely on and trust in others while patiently waiting for their feedback and schedules, which makes me a little anxious. In order to ease my anxiety, I have had constant communication with my team in class and out to make sure we are on the same page and not slaking. Miss Amy is there to guide us and support us throughout the process which is very comforting. Besides utilizing the IB profile traits communicator and reflector, I am also using risk-taker by placing my trust and confidence in my team and our abilities both individually and as a group. I strongly believe that my teammates will be a good support system for me and make sure we accomplish our goals, which is why despite all the unknown variables I am excited to move forward.

Create SMART goals for your project
S: We want to earn money by putting on a dance production in our community to fundraise a new floor at ELEVATE. Additionally, support competition kids.
M: Money earned, number of participants both dancers and guests.
A: We will work closely with Gaby and our mentors to help put on a production. Use teamwork and dedication.
R: Yes, Our studio requires money to pay for utilities, new floors, and support the competition students. Due to COVID, the students have not been able to put on a showcase and this allows them to do so.
T: May -June 2022
Goal: Create a dance production for May 2022, that implements relevant issues around the world by collaborating with ELEVATE Movement Studio and our mentors. Provide ELEVATE dancers with the opportunity to perform for the first time since COVID while fundraising to give back to the studio in the form of a new floor and supporting the competition team.

What are your perceptions of the project at the moment? Does it solve a need in the community? If so, what? Are there people that are willing to help? If not, how can you find them? And what is the vision for the project at the end of the duration? How will it benefit the community?
The perception of this project is to raise sufficient money to donate to ELEVATE. We are helping our community by giving kids the opportunity to express themselves for the first time since COVID. The production will contain multiple dances that each feature an issue being faced in the world. This aspect will benefit the community by raising awareness of topics being faced outside of Costa Rica, allowing them to engage in global affairs. Additionally, all proceeds earned will be given to the local dance studio, to pay for floors, utilities, and the competition team. ELEVATE serves as an outlet for many teenagers including us and they are currently having trouble earning enough money to accomplish all they wish to provide and that is why we would like to support it as much as we can. As of the moment we have multiple community members who are willing to support us and our project. We have strong relationships with influential members of the community, which will be super beneficial for the outcome of the project. Once the project has been completed it should have benefited the community in multiple ways. People should be more aware of relevant controversial issues, kids will be able to perform for the community, and ELEVATE will have new materials to improve the studio and take the company students to competitions.
