How are you feeling at the beginning of the project? Describe your feelings and how you are using strategies to manage them.
I am feeling really excited, this is a topic that I’m super passionate about and I’m glad to have a partner who is equally as excited as I am. I am trying to stay focused on each step so I have been writing down my ideas to go over them with Isabel since sometimes I get too excited and forget important aspects.
Create SMART goals for your project. Explain how they are SMART and when we can review them to see if they have been met.
I will have educated my peers on neurodivergence and its importance. I will also raise money for our school’s B.E.S.T. team by the end of this trimester.
What are your perceptions of the project at the moment? Does it solve a need in the community? If so, what? Are there people that are willing to help? If not, how can you find them. And what is the vision for the project at the end of the duration? How will it benefit the community?
I am very optimistic, from what I have spoken with some peers on the topic of neurodivergence they seem to be quite accepting and curious which makes me really happy. I think it does solve a need in the community because sometimes there are misunderstandings when it comes to neurotypicals and neurodivergent people which can lead to all sorts of situations whether positive or negative. I hope that if everyone has a deeper understanding than the general “if you have ADHD you can’t sit still” or “OCD is just perfectionism” than maybe it can connect people in the community better. I know for a fact that there are people willing to help. For one, the B.E.S.T. team who is full of people who are as passionate as we are and they have actual education in this have expressed their appreciation for our project. My vision is for the kids at our school to just be aware acknowledge these differences in a positive way, I hope to help them understand the topic a little bit better. I also hope that future kids who may end up as part of the B.E.S.T. team can have the materials they need. My goal is basically to make school life just a little bit easier for neurodivergent folks.
