Weekly entry

This week I focused on developing and planning my biggest fundraiser. I had a meeting with my mom to properly discuss what the event would look like and to set a date. But before all this I planned out and organized my ideas for the event. I really started to think about the logistics of this event, time slots for tennis and pickleball, costs, what i would charge, potential ping pong table, who i’m going to get the prizes for the raffle from, food and baked goods….

This fundraiser is extremely important for my project as I can’t really do anything until I get the sufficient funds. I’m hoping this event will be successful enough so that I don’t really have to do any other large fundraising and can focus on actually getting animals rescued and given medical care. The logistics and organizing of this event are a crucial part and I want to make sure I’m taking advantage of it to raise as many funds as possible, this means including as many ways of creating funds as possible. That is why I have to figure out so many different elements that will create as much involvement as possible.

I also started thinking about how I’m going to spread information during the event. Another part of this project is to bring awareness on animal cruelty and the effect animal industries have on our enviroment since I don’t think it’s something our communities are very aware about. In order to do this I thought of creating brochures that I can distribute during the event and I found a website where I can create it.

Coming up with the ideas was relatively easy for me and organization/planning I feel like comes naturally. The part I struggled more with is the logistics for the actual tennis/ pickleball tournament. Since this is something I have no experience in organizing and I’m not fully sure what the demand is in our community I have had a hard time deciding how to organize it. When I first started this idea it was originally only a tennis tournament but my dad made it clear that pickleball was much more profitable and would also be much better for people that don’t really know how to play. There’s also already a community of pickleball players who play regularly and could be a great addition to the event. Thankfully since I have the support of my dad I will soon sit down and organize the logistics for the tournaments with him to get his input and experience.
