A Day in the Field in the Klein (Little) Karoo

Jenny came to a friend's farm, in the Klein (Little) Karoo to do research and give a talk to a local volunteer group she stewards remotely. One of the active members told her about nests he had found within termite mounds. She talks about how this can come about and then gives a sense of what a day of exploration/research is like in this part of the Karoo in late September/early October. The ivory bracelet she shows was found on this land years ago and gifted to Jenny. It was from the time when Karoo elephants existed. When they would die, the San would cut the tusks and wear them as bracelets. It's a very powerful talisman. For those coming on the trip next year (same season) the weather may be similar in theĀ  the Moordenaarskaroo where we will be staying.
