What Happened in May

Over the last month within my project, I have worked on advertising and successfully moving my project online, and entering a new market of students. Last year I started my math project as students had asked me to, they were all in 12th grade and therefore no longer need math help as they have finished their final exams. So, how can I reach the younger grades and my peers? This came as a much harder challenge than I thought and made me appreciate the timing for the beginning of my project last trimester. Most people in high school are either at a point where they don’t need help with math or may be unaware of the fact they need help. last year as students approached their exams they noticed they needed help. So across the past weeks, I worked on finding a way to engage within my targeted demographic and I realized a key element. I may need parents to be involved and aware of my project to hold students accountable. My project has the purpose of fulfilling a need within the community., allowing students to improve their math skills, and most often it is something that you wouldn’t want to do. Join a zoom call for an hour after school seems exhausting but may be necessary and therefore having parents involved will assure that students come. This will hopefully allow me to create a consistent group and then be able to reach more people. To do this I created two videos (one in English and one in Spanish) describing my project and why I started my project to the weekly newsletter hopefully reaching parents and students. This video creation process required me to reflect on the reason I choose this project because I love math and therefore, I hope allowed me to create a stronger and engaging video.
