Why a mowana/elephant imbalance?

This is a multifactorial issue that includes climate change and diminished immune resilience of the Mowana. In addition, Botswana became a safe haven for elephants to migrate to, during poaching for the ivory trade in the surrounding countries. They found peace from being hunted, settled in Botswana and began breeding.
