I feel like my main reason why I felt like I needed to tackle the issue I was aiming at, is because it was something I felt needed to be looked at in my community from the day I got there. When I was 12, I went to the beach in my new Costa Rican hometown for the first time and noted that the sand was lovely and the waves were great, but there weren’t many locals surfing and no local kids. Only five Costa Ricans came to surf at what is described as a “local beach,” I discovered over time.
