Hello! My name is Joan Alvarado I am 17 years old and I am from Costa Rica. This project idea came from a visit we did to Eath University in Limon (one of the seven provinces) This university is one of the best places to study agriculture engineering, the methods they use and the ability to develop any agriculture activity in their campus motivated me to do this project. This modern gardening center it’s going to be a place where kids from all the ages are able to develop skills through agriculture. Its called modern because the production system that it will contain is considered a modern, system such as aquaponics. Agriculture has being on human life from the start of the time, agriculture gave us life and gave us skills, skills that on a globalized world we are forgetting.
There are 3 things that I love in my life and they are the following: Family, agriculture and aviation. They are not closely related things but depending on how you think about it they may have something in common. For example, the three of them relate to the responsibility. You need to be a responsible person when maintaining a family united, in agriculture you need to be very responsible when taking a decision, and in aviation, well you are responsible for other people's lives. My dream is to a be a commercial pilot, which is a pretty expensive career, for a person like me. I know is not going to be easy to get there, many obstacles are going to come, but, I have my family which is my motivation and agriculture which started as a hobby and now become the possible bridge to get to my objective.
What I Do:
"It's very interesting to understand the human mentality. Knowing yourself is very important in life, if you don't know yourself you can't be yourself."
I wrote this on one of the firsts CAS reflections I did in my life, and with this, I can answer the question.
During the process of this project until now I have gone through an internal process which helped to know myself. And knowing myself gives me confidence and motivation for life. Until now I have discovered many new things about me, working on this project helps me discover the positive and negative aspects of my persona.
This project is going to help me a lot in life because I am getting many new skills such as leadership, risk taker and writing. All these skills are very useful for my future life.
What I Want:
I don't like to talk about my own skills because they are based on what I think and this could be very different from what I am actually good at, its all about perspectives.
But I would say that I am a very communicative, committed and hardworking person. To get a bit more specific about each skill I would say that being a communicative person is very important in life, being committed is also very important, but hard working is what takes you far. People need to understand that you need to work to be "successful" in life because it's not easy.
I think I am good at understanding the world, being open-minded and responsible.
