Guatemala is a beautiful country, rich of culture, amazing food, and remarkable people. Unfortunately, the quality of education that most of the kids in public schools recieve is really deficient. Evaluations lead by authorities of the Ministry of Education of Guatemala in 2013 have shown that out of 137,460 young students 92.7 percent failed the test in the numerical area [or mathematics] and 75.5 percent failed it in the language area. Because of that, Colegio Mesoamericano—a private school—wanted to do something. The Wonderment donated a mobile library, and our goal is to reach public schools and make activities with the kids. Students of Colegio Mesoamericano volunteer and spend time planning, and going to public schools to read, write, learn, and enjoy the time they spend with the kids. This experience gives the opportunity to the kids of public schools to reach for more resources and it helps the kids of colegio Mesoamericano develop leadership skills. Above all, it creates an environment where two groups who think they are different, generate connections among each other and at the end of the day just have fun together.
